Jewellery making classes are available with me in my Langholm studio. Group classes usually run on a Wednesday from 10-4 and cost £70 per person plus materials (approx £10). If you are a group or 3 or more, or you’re booking a private lesson, we can compare diaries and arrange a day to suit. Beginners start by making a silver ring, as this gives you the opportunity to use a variety of tools and have a go at soldering. Have a look at my facebook page to see when the next class is. More info on how to book and what to bring, is at the bottom of the page.
I also offer private jewellery classes where you can choose to concentrate on specific skills, for instance soldering, rubover or flush setting, etching etc. Private tuition (one person) costs £250 per day (10.00-4pm on weekdays), materials are extra. Private tuition for two people costs £350 per day plus materials. Give me a call on 013873 81180 to book.
I also run “make your own wedding rings” workshops. These jewellery classes cost £400 per couple plus materials, the day starts at 10am and we continue until your rings are finished. We’ll spend some time prior to your day, talking over what it is you’d like to make. Rings can be stone set and/or engraved, this is done separately, costs will be quoted depending on what you’d like. Here’s what Kate and Gavin had to say:
“When my (now) husband and I began to look for wedding rings we couldn’t find anything we liked. We dismissed making our rings because we thought it would be an expensive and laborious process. We couldn’t have been more wrong! When we began to talk to Lisa she was friendly and professional. Lisa spoke to us about materials and design. She helped us think about things we would never have thought about; including using stones which had been in old jewellery. I was able to use a combination of responsibly sourced ‘new’ stones and one which had been in my grandmother’s jewellery.
The day we made our wedding rings was amazing and such good fun! Lisa guided us through the process with her kind and patient manner. She was encouraging when the metal didn’t do what we wanted it to do. At every step Lisa answered our questions and made us feel at home. I learnt things about a jeweller’s work and tools I would never have known if I’d not made my own ring. I definitely have a new appreciation of the time and effort it takes to craft such beautiful things.
Our time and effort was worth it, the finished rings are beautiful and completely unique. But better than that we shared an experience with Lisa that neither me nor my husband will ever forget. I would recommend to anyone and everyone, make your own wedding rings and make them with Lisa Rothwell –Young!”
If you wear glasses, please remember to bring them and tie long hair back. Bring an apron or wear something you don’t mind getting dirty. Jewellery making is fiddly and does require patience and good eyesight. We break for 30mins at lunch and this gives you a chance to grab a sandwich, stretch your legs and get some fresh air. There are plenty of cafes and a supermarket in the town.
To book your place, please contact me, I’ll then forward payment details. Once payment is received, your place will be confirmed. If I need to cancel due to low numbers (group classes), payments will be refunded in full. If you need to cancel due to illness, an alternative date will be offered. If you need to cancel for any other reason, refunds will only be made where a minimum of 14 days notice is given. If you have a medical condition or any special requirements, please let me know. The room we will be working in is on the first floor, up two and a half flights of stairs. Free parking is available outside.
