£100.00

Beginners Jewellery Making Full Day Class in Dumfries

Join me for this Saturday, full day Jewellery Making class, held at my studio at Browne House, The Crichton, Dumfries.

This beginners class will introduce you to various techniques such as filing, using a piercing saw, drilling, polishing, soldering and texturing and by the end of the day you’ll have made a silver ring

The class runs from 10am – 4:30pm.  The cost per person is £100 plus silver (£12).

You need to have completed this class before you progress onto the other beginners classes: make a pendant, make a pair of earrings, make a bangle.

WHY DO I NEED TO HAVE ATTENDED A BEGINNERS  CLASS BEFORE I CAN ATTEND INTERMEDIATE SESSIONS

The beginners classes are all designed to give you a good basic understanding of a variety of skills, before you progress onto trickier projects.  If you’ve completed a beginners class with me before, or have attended classes elsewhere, you’ll be able to join the intermediate courses once they are up and running.

DO YOU PROVIDE REFRESHMENTS?

Yes, tea, coffee, herbal tea and plant based milks (and biscuits) are included.  There will be times when you want to procrastinate before a tricky bit, this is the ideal time for a cuppa and a biscuit!

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON EACH CLASS?

There will be a minimum/maximum of 4 people.

WHAT’S THE ACCESS LIKE?

There is a ramp at the front of the building and a small threshold.  The workshop, toilets and kitchen are all on one level.  There are disabled toilets available and parking directly outside the building.  If you have any access issues, please give me a call and we can chat through the details.

IS JEWELLERY MAKING FIDDLY? DO I NEED GOOD EYESIGHT?

It is fiddly and does require a bit of patience, especially at the start when you don’t have much experience.  Good dexterity is handy, lots of things in jewellery making are quite small.  You’ll want to bring your glasses – feel free to bring a magnifying glass if you think it might help you.

WHAT ABOUT LUNCH?

There is a kitchen in Browne House where you can sit and eat lunch, or if it’s nice, sit outside in the gardens.  The Cafe at Crichton Central is just around the corner and serves lovely food (and cake)!

DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?

Yes, an apron is handy, or wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy.  Your glasses, a notepad and pen.

WHAT DOES THE SILVER COST?

A piece of silver sheet, 10mm wide, 1mm thick x 70mm long costs about £12 and would be enough to make a silver ring.  If you come to classes longer term you’ll be given a list of suppliers so that you can source your own metal for your own projects.

IS THERE AN INTERMEDIATE COURSE AND WHAT WILL IT COVER?

Yes, there will be an intermediate course, it’ll cover stonesetting (tube), bezel setting cabochons, chain making, wax carving, sand and water casting, riveting, etc.

DO YOU OFFER 1:1 CLASSES?

Yes just get in touch and lets have a chat about what you’d like to do.  1:1 classes are perfect for learning more complicated skills, or if you’d like to learn more quickly.  One to one classes are £360/day.

CAN WE MAKE OUR OWN WEDDING RINGS?

Yes, I can do this, the day costs £500, generally starts at 10am and we stay till your rings are finished.  We’ll spend some time in the run up organising materials and designs, so that you can make the most of your time on the day.    Your rings can be hallmarked at extra cost.

IS THERE SOMEWHERE WE CAN STAY OVER IF WE WANT TO MAKE A WEEKEND OF IT?

Yes, there’s the Holiday Inn, also located on The Crichton, about a 10 minute walk away.
