I first met Lisa at a Spring Fling and was impressed by how passionate she was about creating beautiful jewellery from old pieces. I had an eternity ring that kept losing stones and so it was an ideal source of materials to create a necklace and earrings. Lisa listened carefully to my life story and designed a beautiful necklace inspired by the sea. I can’t recommend Lisa enough if you want something really special!

The ring is so lovely (recycled silver lichen ring) and goes so nicely with my other jewellery! It fits perfectly and I’m in love with it!

Recently purchased the kalimera bangle and earrings as a gift. I’m over the moon with them both, they’re beautiful and my mum (recipient) loves them too! Thanks Lisa, you were so helpful throughout!

I had an idea in my head, and a drive in my heart to turn earrings from my mum, into cufflinks for my sons wedding day.
I lost mum 16 weeks ago, so wanted my son to have a piece of my mum with him throughout all of his wedding.
The wedding will be a scottish wedding with kilts, so I wanted silver thistles, with the stone of mums earring to be the middle of the thistle.
All of this was in my head, but after having discussions with Lisa, she drew and drafted my vision, then turned it into a reality.
I am now in receipt, of the most beautiful bespoke, hallmarked, silver thistle cufflinks, bearing mums stones in the middle of the thistle flower. They have also been engraved for me.
I am overwhelmed with how stunning they are, attention to detail and finish.
Can’t thank Lisa enough, for having the talent, ability, vision and creativity to translate what was in my head into such beautiful jewellery, which is now 1 of it’s kind.
And these now have a place in our history and hearts, and will be handed down, with this story….
I can’t recommend Lisa enough !

I asked Lisa to make me a ring using some pieces of gold and silver that I already had. These were of sentimental value i.e. odd earrings, links from bracelets etc. I wanted a ring that I could wear all the time and one that would be approximately 10 millimetres wide combining both metals. She asked me if there was any theme I would like it to portray and I said  ‘the sea’.  I didn’t want the design to be symmetrical. Lisa showed me a sketch from her own designs for her new collection and I said I would be only too happy if she made me something along those lines but I would leave the design entirely up to her.  I can only say that the end result was exactly as I could have wished for – it is both beautiful and very special to me and shows what a talented lady she is.

I can wear my earrings without fear of losing them and they look so much more balanced now, my bangle has surpassed all my expectations and I’m so delighted with it I don’t think I’ll ever take it off! My beautiful ring made by Lisa Rothwell-Young from the sapphire & diamonds in my mum’s engagement ring. My mum’s favourite flower was the anemone and as you can see, there are anemones with the sapphire and the diamonds in the centre of each flower. I absolutely love it and think of my dear mum whenever I wear it. Thank you so much Lisa – such amazing talent.

I approached Lisa as I was familiar with her work and was looking for a ring to be made that represented something personal and sentimental.
I met with Lisa several times to discuss what I liked and explore options. From the start I was sure I wanted the birth stones of my children included in the ring, however I didn’t want their “traditional” birth stones as the colours weren’t “me”. Lisa researched the birth stones, identifying what other colours were available in the stones. In the end we decided on pink garnet and white sapphire.  Lisa had the idea of incorporating “waves” into the ring to represent my husbands career at sea, with the waves binding us together with our children’s birth stones. I felt this idea and design captured my personality and family perfectly.  Throughout the process of making the ring Lisa kept me informed, sending me photos and I even got to visit her working away in her studio.

I am absolutely delighted with my ring, often receive compliments from strangers. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Lisa to anyone who is looking for an individual piece of jewellery, she really listens and has a real flair – thank you Lisa!

I’m in love.  Thank you so much it is not only absolutely gorgeous but I get to wear something so pretty everyday that means so much to me… there was maybe even a wee tear in my eye when I put it on next to my Gran’s engagement ring. You are an absolute superstar.

After seeing some of Lisa’s work on display we went to visit her at the studio to find out more about having our wedding rings made. We didn’t have any clear ideas about what we wanted but Lisa gave us lots of ideas and helped us to decide. To ensure that the fit was exactly right around my engagement ring Lisa made up my wedding ring in silver first, and I was able to wear it for a few days to make sure that I was happy with it. The end result was a pair of rings that we are love and that really are unique. Working with Lisa was a great experience!

Lisa and I chatted together to make my stunning ring. It was made from sentimental rings to my requested design. Lisa was lovely and helpful and kept me updated at different stages of progression. I visited Lisa’s workshop to see these different stages which was really interesting. So pleased and happy with this ring of which my family and friends admire. Many thanks Lisa

Hi. Thanks for the earrings which have arrived safely and are lovely. A treat for myself with some birthday money from the big birthday last month.

I can’t tell you how pleased we were to find Lisa to make our wedding rings. She talked to us at length about what we wanted (neither of us knew!), and by a process of elimination, and discussion of her techniques and approaches, we ended up with the best rings in the world. Dave, chose a lichen effect, thin silver band, and I decided on an experimental technique that involved placing a raw ruby in the sand-cast before pouring the molten silver in (I think!). People haven’t stopped complimenting me on it – the ruby peeks out from the silver like a shy kitten – and it reminds me of the jewellery you see in the ‘Romans’ sections of museums. Every time I look at it I smile.

When I decided that I wanted to learn how to make ‘proper’ jewellery, I came across Lisa’s website offering private tuition.  After chatting on the phone I immediately warmed to her, finding her friendly, open and encouraging and couldn’t wait for my first lesson.  Well, it was amazing, I came home with a silver ring. Not only that, I understood perfectly how to do it again and exactly what was needed in terms of tools and materials.  I have since undertaken many lessons with Lisa and learnt so much in each lesson that it is really quite incredible, so much so that I now in fact run my own jewellery making business, something I could have only dreamed of before attending lessons with Lisa.

With Lisa’s private tuition you get a lot for your money.  Firstly you have access to her extensively equipped workshop which is filled with every tool required to make jewellery from your first silver band ring to very complicated intricate designs.  You are able to use the equipment such as hand tools, metal working machinery and soldering torches and much more with detailed instruction. Every step is clearly taught to you allowing you to fully understand the process and create beautiful pieces.

You will learn metal shaping, filing, cutting and soldering as basics then progressing to choose from techniques such as stone setting (e.g bezel setting, flush setting and claw setting), etching, riveting, chain making, clasp making, complicated soldering, highly skilled setting making, lost wax carving, melting and milling and more.  With her years of experience if you want to learn a particular technique, she can show you how. If you have a design or piece in mind that you would like to make, you can ask Lisa and she will show you how to make it, guiding you right through the process until you leave with your treasured piece.

Lisa is a lovely person. She will share with you all her knowledge and skills, taking delight in your progress and moving you on quickly as you learn, maximising your time with her.  She also has extensive knowledge of the jewellery trade and business and gives advice and professional mentoring in these areas also.

In taking private tuition with Lisa you have the opportunity to learn how to make amazing jewellery in a fully equipped safe environment, potentially learn a trade and gain a knowledgeable friend to boot.  It happened to me!!

When my (now) husband and I began to look for wedding rings we couldn’t find anything we liked. We dismissed making our rings because we thought it would be an expensive and laborious process. We couldn’t have been more wrong! When we began to talk to Lisa she was friendly and professional. Lisa spoke to us about materials and design. She helped us think about things we would never have thought about; including using stones which had been in old jewellery. I was able to use a combination of responsibly sourced ‘new’ stones and one which had been in my grandmother’s jewellery.
The day we made our wedding rings was amazing and such good fun! Lisa guided us through the process with her kind and patient manner. She was encouraging when the metal didn’t do what we wanted it to do. At every step Lisa answered our questions and made us feel at home. I learnt things about a jeweller’s work and tools I would never have known if I’d not made my own ring. I definitely have a new appreciation of the time and effort it takes to craft such beautiful things.
Our time and effort was worth it, the finished rings are beautiful and completely unique. But better than that we shared an experience with Lisa that neither me nor my husband will ever forget. I would recommend to anyone and everyone, make your own wedding rings and make them with Lisa Rothwell –Young!

I recently had a beautiful ring made by Lisa.  I had a voucher to spend and really wasn’t sure what I wanted.  I’ve never had the opportunity to design a piece of jewellery before! Lisa was excellent in giving me advice and ideas about what I could have.  Once we decided I was going to have a ring made, the next step was to choose a stone.  Again, I had no idea.  Lisa showed me some examples of what I could choose and I immediately fell in love with a moonstone.  Lisa involved me in every step of the design process and I am absolutely delighted with the finished piece.  Lisa just got it so right and the ring is very ‘me’.  It is very dainty but so, so beautiful!  I just can’t stop looking at it when I wear it!  Thank you so much!
