Lichen bangle

This solid, 4mm wide, D shaped, oval, sterling silver bangle is created using the technique of acid etching.  Each piece is unique, the pattern is painted on using a liquid called a resist, before the bangle is submerged in acid.  The acid eats away at any bare metal creating the pattern.  Each piece is then wire brushed to polish it before being hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office.  Very popular with my lovely customers!

This bangle is inspired by lichen and the growth patterns they create.   Lichen is a tough little plant that not only survives, but thrives, in some of the most inhospitable places on the planet. This collection features etching, oxidation, keum bo (the Korean art of depletion gilding), gold, silver and precious faceted stones.
